GTLAX Game Report - April 27 vs Spencerport

After a two and a half week hiatus that spanned spring break, Gianna Trimboli was back at the mic, on Tuesday 27-April, to kick off Thunder's first meeting of the season with the Spencerport Rangers. It was a defensive battle with solid goaltending at both ends by Rudgers (10s) and Schweikert (13s), but Spencerport would ultimately break Thunder's 4-game streak with a 9-7 decision.

Brandon Cheeseman had an outstanding game leading the defense for Thunder with beaucoup big hits, 8gbs and several nice rushes down the field after breaking out of the pack and fending off numerous checks. The Rangers were beating him like a horse down the backstretch, but he just kept on moving forward. Tyler LePore saw his first minutes of the season, adding a physical presence defense and some wheels in transition. Dan Vyverberg and Joe Trimboli (1a) contributed 7gbs & 6 gbs respectively toward Thunder's cause. Parker Bonis made his varsity debut with a shift at midfield.

First quarter was all Rangers as they racked up four unanswered goals. Thunder had their chances offensively as well, but could not finish. Anthony Merola (2g-2a) led off the second quarter with Thunder's first tally, assisted by Matt Keough (1g-1a), but the Rangers put away the next three to secure a commanding 7-1 lead at the half.
Thunder could have easily folded their tent after an uninspiring start, but instead they bounced back after the break and shut the Rangers out with 3 goals to own the third quarter. It was Gino Prestigiacomo (2g-1a) priming the pump first, then Dan Vyverberg (2g) bagged the next two to narrow the gap and it was 7-4 Rangers after three.

Fourth frame was put up or shut up time and the Thunder made a valiant effort recording three more markers from G-Pres, Merola, and Keough, but it was a little too little, a little too late, as the Rangers would score twice to keep Greece at bay.

Sort of let this one slip away, but these two teams will meet again in May for Thunders final game of the regular season.
