Thunder LAXers dropped their third straight with an 11-10 road loss to Batavia on Saturday as they slide to 4-4. Can somebody please apply some pressure to stop the bleeding? Both keepers played well in the nets, recording 15 saves apiece, but it was Blue Devils cager Theo Hill who would walk away with the W. Thunder went 0 for 7 on their EMO, unacceptable. Gotta work on that. Too much standing around, not enough movement and not enough shots. Thunder won the battle of the ground balls led by Brandon Cheeseman with 15 and Nick Caracci put his patented Caracci crunch on display once again.
Tyler Lepore cracked the seal with the first goal of the game for Thunder that was soon followed up with another by Anthony Merola (2g), assisted by Gino Prestigiacomo (2g-2a). Batavia closed out the first quarter with a pair of goals to even things up at 2's. Thunder traded goals with the Blue Devils in the second as well, but Batavia went to the half with a 1-goal lead, 5-4. Scoring for Thunder were Tyler Gorgione (2g-1a), assisted by G-Pres and Dan Vyverberg (3g-1a), assisted by Joe Trimboli. Vyverberg netted Thunder's lone goal in the third assisted by Gorgione, but Batavia mushed on with three tallies of their own to make it 8-5 going into the final frame.
Blue Devils banged home 2 early to start the fourth and it seemed as if they were going really open things up, but Thunder dug deep and found enough resolve to counter and keep themselves in the game. Vyverberg was hit by friendly fire while Standing on the crease as a shot from fellow attackman Matt Keough struck him in the arm and fell at his feet. Vyper scooped it up, turned, and beat Hill for his third to hang on. Next up was G-Pres going ISO twice to get it to 11-8. Gorgione added a ripper to chip away and it was 11-9. Vyper fed Merola cutting backdoor and he finished to make it 11-10. Last play of the game, Thunder got the ball at their end line, trailing by 1 goal, with just 13 seconds remaining. Dan Conway legged it past midfield, hit Matt Keough at the box then Keough bumped it to Vyverberg who immediately found Merola on the crease and just as time was about to expire, Merola fired at close range, but he got all pipe and the horn sounded. No goal. Game over. Drive home safely everyone. It was an exciting photo finish for sure, but it would have been even sweeter with a buzzer-beater!
Come on out and cheer the boys on Tuesday, 4-May, as they host Eastridge, 5pm @ Athena Stadium, and attempt to get their mojo back. Guest announcers, vocalists, men, women, children, foreign dignitaries, domestic dignitaries, athletic directors, and half-time performers are more than welcome. Bring it on!

GTLAX Game Report - April 29
Surely you are familiar with "Friday Nite Lights", well the LAX version is called "Thursday Nite Lights", and for Thunder's Nick Kraft it was lights-out in the fourth quarter as he collided head-to-head with Max Brauer, from the Barons. It was one of the scariest things I have ever seen in Lacrosse. A bit dazed as well, Brauer was attended to by the trainer and escorted to the bench, however Kraft left by ambulance for precautionary measures. A weeks' rest should hopefully see Nick back on the field in good repair.
Oh yeah, the game. Senior Mason Rosso was in the lineup for Thunder and saw his first minutes of the season. It was a 7pm start under the lights on the turf @ Brighton and it must have been milkbone night as there were dogs everywhere. Thunder got dogged 18-4 and left with their tails between their legs. Ground balls and face-offs were even, but the aggressive defense for Brighton limited Thunder to only 11 shots, compared to 22 on cage for the Barons.
It was 6-0 Barons at the end of the first and 10-1 by the half, with the lone goal for Thunder compliments of Matt Keough, assisted by Gino Prestigiacomo (3a). Thunder managed three more in the third as Anthony Merola, Joe Trimboli, and Nick Kraft (first varsity goal) each found the back of the net, but that was all she wrote for the men in purple.

GTLAX Game Report - April 27 vs Spencerport
After a two and a half week hiatus that spanned spring break, Gianna Trimboli was back at the mic, on Tuesday 27-April, to kick off Thunder's first meeting of the season with the Spencerport Rangers. It was a defensive battle with solid goaltending at both ends by Rudgers (10s) and Schweikert (13s), but Spencerport would ultimately break Thunder's 4-game streak with a 9-7 decision.
Brandon Cheeseman had an outstanding game leading the defense for Thunder with beaucoup big hits, 8gbs and several nice rushes down the field after breaking out of the pack and fending off numerous checks. The Rangers were beating him like a horse down the backstretch, but he just kept on moving forward. Tyler LePore saw his first minutes of the season, adding a physical presence defense and some wheels in transition. Dan Vyverberg and Joe Trimboli (1a) contributed 7gbs & 6 gbs respectively toward Thunder's cause. Parker Bonis made his varsity debut with a shift at midfield.
First quarter was all Rangers as they racked up four unanswered goals. Thunder had their chances offensively as well, but could not finish. Anthony Merola (2g-2a) led off the second quarter with Thunder's first tally, assisted by Matt Keough (1g-1a), but the Rangers put away the next three to secure a commanding 7-1 lead at the half.
Thunder could have easily folded their tent after an uninspiring start, but instead they bounced back after the break and shut the Rangers out with 3 goals to own the third quarter. It was Gino Prestigiacomo (2g-1a) priming the pump first, then Dan Vyverberg (2g) bagged the next two to narrow the gap and it was 7-4 Rangers after three.
Fourth frame was put up or shut up time and the Thunder made a valiant effort recording three more markers from G-Pres, Merola, and Keough, but it was a little too little, a little too late, as the Rangers would score twice to keep Greece at bay.
Sort of let this one slip away, but these two teams will meet again in May for Thunders final game of the regular season.
